Ship Anchor & Anchor Chain Supplier Across Indian Ports
Solanki Ship Care supplies IACS class-certified ship anchors β stockless, AC-14 HHP, and Spek type β along with Grade 2 and Grade 3 stud link anchor chain, from 12.5mm to 122mm diameter, to vessels calling at every major and minor Indian port. We handle compliance replacements and anchor supply when an anchor is lost, damaged, or fails survey.
What Type of Anchor Does Your Vessel Need?
Most merchant vessels today carry a stockless anchor as the bower (main) anchor, because it stows flush into the hawse pipe without a crossbar getting in the way β unlike the older stock/Admiralty design it replaced. Which stockless type fits your vessel depends on size, class requirement, and the seabeds at the ports you call.
| Anchor Type | Best For | Holding Power | Typical Vessel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hall Type A/B/C | General merchant service, mixed seabeds | Standard | Bulk carriers, general cargo, mid-size tankers |
| AC-14 HHP | Large tankers, container ships, car carriers | High (HHP) | VLCCs, ULCCs, container ships, car carriers |
| Spek Type | Easier stowage, less hull scratching | Standard-to-high | General cargo, tankers |
| Danforth / Stock HHP | Barges, offshore units, dredgers | Very high (for weight) | Barges, jack-up rigs, dredging support |
*Not sure which type your vessel is due for? The fastest way to confirm is the anchor's class certificate and the vessel's Equipment Number (EN) β send us either one and we'll match type, mass, and chain diameter without back-and-forth.*
Stud Link Anchor Chain β Grades & Sizes
Anchor chain for merchant vessels is almost always stud link chain β each link carries a stud cast or forged across its centre, stopping the link from stretching, twisting, or collapsing flat under load, and adding useful weight to the chain itself. It's built to ISO 1704 and class-society Unified Requirements, in diameters from roughly 12.5mm to 122mm.
| Grade | What Sets It Apart | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| Grade 2 (U2) | Standard heat treatment for the diameter and steel spec. | The default for the large majority of merchant vessels β adequate breaking strength for typical bower chain duty. |
| Grade 3 (U3) | Additional heat treatment after manufacture, raising tensile and proof-load strength at the same diameter. | Lets a vessel use lighter chain for the same Equipment Number, or adds margin for demanding duty. |
Chain is supplied in shots (standard length, commonly around 27.5m), each carrying its own identification mark for traceability, in black bitumen/anti-corrosive coating or hot-dip galvanized finish. Accessories supplied alongside include Kenter joining shackles, joining/D-shackles, anchor swivel pieces, anchor shackles, and taper pins β all certified to match the chain's grade and diameter.

Anchor supply questions.
What type of anchor does my ship need?
It depends on your vessel's Equipment Number (EN) and class notation. Most merchant vessels use a stockless anchor β Hall type for general service, AC-14 HHP for large tankers and container ships. Send us your EN or class certificate and we'll confirm the correct type and mass.
What is the difference between Grade 2 and Grade 3 anchor chain?
Both are stud link chain built to ISO 1704 in the same diameter range. Grade 3 receives additional heat treatment after manufacture, giving higher tensile and proof-load strength than Grade 2 at the same diameter.
Do you supply IACS class-certified anchors and chain in India?
Yes. All anchors and chain we supply come with manufacturer's class certificates from IACS member societies, matched to the vessel's requirement.
Can you deliver an anchor urgently if one is lost or damaged?
Yes, we run 24/7 emergency anchor supply, as demonstrated by our recent delivery to MV MONA LISA at Mundra Port and MV GRAVITY at Tuticorin Port.
Which Indian ports do you cover for anchor and anchor chain supply?
All major and minor Indian ports on both coasts β including Kandla, Mundra, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, Haldia, Paradip, Krishnapatnam, Ennore, Kochi, Tuticorin, and more.
